Situation

Support teams want a chatbot that answers from their own help center and does not make things up. Visitors also need to see where an answer came from.

What I built

  • Indexing for PDF, Markdown and text files, split by heading
  • Retrieval of the passages closest to the question, passed to Claude with instructions to answer only from them
  • Sources under every answer, limited to the passages Claude actually cited
  • Streaming answers, a demo page and a chat widget that any website can load with one script tag
  • Input length limits and a per-visitor rate limit for a public deployment

Result

35 automated tests cover indexing, retrieval and the answer flow. The demo runs without an API key in mock mode: retrieval is real, and the answer text is assembled from the retrieved passages instead of generated by Claude. The page says so on screen.
